Threshold

I asked my son’s friends, all turning 20, about their adolescence, what they wrestled with as they came of age. They were open and generous. I showed them art historical images of David with the head of Goliath and each chose something to symbolize the psychological Goliath they overcame. Each large portrait was intended to be fully painted. However, as each boy/man still teetered on the cusp of adulthood, the use of pencil seemed appropriately provisional.
